Sani admits poverty in the north, lists 5 ways to become equal with the south

- Senator Shehu Sani admits the north has a major challenge of poverty among the people - Sani wants northern leaders to tell themselves the truth and focus on ways to end poverty in the region

- Among others, the senator says the north must end its heavy dependence on oil Outspoken Nigerian senator, Shehu Sani, has admitted there is serious poverty in the north, but that the solution also rests in the leadership of the zone that prides itself as the biggest in the country with 19 states. Sani, who granted an interview to the Daily Independent, said: “I will use this opportunity to remind us, especially those of us from northern Nigeria, that there are number of steps we need to take for us to be economically equal with that part of the country that provide the resources on which this country is being run.” 

He listed the ways out of poverty in the north to include: 

1. We must guard against terrorism and extremism. That is very important. 

2. We must bring an end to over dependence on oil. 

3. We must massively invest in education because that is the basis upon which other sectors of the economy rest.

 4. We must invest and revive agriculture in North and our industries. 

5. There is a need to bring an end to the disunity and disharmony that exist between Muslims and Christians in northern Nigeria. Every person that lives in the state or local government must be treated with dignity and respect.
